Learn What Fiberglass Composite Pools Have To Offer

by | Mar 12, 2018 | Pool Maintenance, Pool Ownership

Last week, we brought you a blog on building your new pool. Just because Erik’s Aquatic Care specializes in maintenance doesn’t mean we will avoid discussing construction for future pool owners. Budget, design, uses, and permits are the basics when it comes to building your new pool. The type of pool plays a big role in your budget, for one. It can also impact aesthetics and value of your home. This week, we’ll be covering a specific type of pool—fiberglass composite pools.

Fiberglass Composite

First off, these pools allow for a more vibrant overall design. They offer a dynamic color range through the design that is clearly distinguishable when compared to other pool types. (For example, pools constructed of concrete or vinyl-liner would need to have additional products added laid on to the base to achieve the same effect. In the long-term, that means added time, cost, the risk of maintenance, and potentially more money. It does not sound worth it in the slightest). The coatings themselves truly sparkle. Therefore, composite fiberglass pools would be best if you are building an in-ground pool in your open backyard. If the sun will hit your future pool directly, this type may be worth looking into as an option.

The Construction Phase

Depending on the manufacturer, your prices will vary. One thing that will be similar across the board is the installation. In doing some necessary research, the best manufacturers create the mold in a controlled environment. Compare that to the average concrete pool build that would be constructed in the elements—outdoors, in humidity, with uncertain weather conditions and so on.

For those future pool owners who want an in-ground pool, it’s a much simpler process. The manufacturer will build the pool off-site, add the desired color coating, and trailer it to your property. Once the outline is dug, it’s as simple as using a crane to move it off the truck and secure it in the ground.

Effective Use Of Risk Management

Believe it or not, fiberglass composite pools are much safer compared to standard concrete or tile-constructed pools. Public pools or even poorly-made private concrete pools make for a rough finish. In the worst-case scenarios, diving down for diving sticks can hurt if you scratch yourself on uneven pieces of concrete. We’ve all been there at least once. However, fiberglass pools offer a seamlessly smooth texture in every nook and cranny. Every lip, stair, edge, corner, wall, and the floor are smooth as butter when constructed to a mold.

Some manufacturers and dealers such as Leisure Pools offer lifetime warranties. Can you get that with other companies who do not specialize in fiberglass? It’s possible, but be sure to check for yourself when you shop around. Again, this is where quality and price play a big role. You will always get what you pay for. Be sure to do your homework on manufacturers before pulling the trigger on a professional team. Check their reviews, portfolio, terms, and even existing clients, if you can. Each piece is important when adding a sizable addition to your property.

Benefits Of Longevity

Most pools require regular monitoring of chemicals, shocks, sanitizers, stabilizers, and pH scale. While the pH scale should always play a factor, chemicals are not needed as much when it comes to fiberglass pool molds. Because it is a one-piece fiberglass mold, these builds do not have chemicals in the structure that can leach into your pool water. Therefore, your pool water is more stabilized on a constant basis than other pools.

Let’s talk Mother Earth and the possibilities. In this particular climate, we are fortunate to not have to endeavor many wraths of God such as tornados, earthquakes, and severe flooding. Our main concerns are tropical storms and hurricanes. Still, weather can cause the Earth to shift. If a home’s foundation can crack, so too can a pool’s foundation. That is unless it’s made of fiberglass. The flexibility and high-tensile strength of fiberglass actually allow for natural ground movement. You won’t need to worry about damage, ever!

Are You Intrigued?

It’s very easy to see how the pros can soar above the cons. In fact, there are not any cons that we found outside of preference. To wet your appetite on designs, check out Swimming Pool Now. In terms of costs, a fiberglass composite or even a vinyl-lined pool (for comparison) can cost fractions of a standard concrete pool. Additions can easily add up. However, you can achieve the oasis you want for much less than you may have originally thought.

Erik’s Aquatic Care is always here to answer questions you may have as a current or future pool owner. Cheers!
